FURIOUS mothers made their feelings clear as they protested outside the Dail last night. Any politician who bothered to come out from the cosy confines of Leinster House to speak to them would have felt fake rolex it. The children's allowance is an emotive issue. It's the only payment that a mother receives from the state towards the cost of rearing children - regardless of her circumstances. It is a payment that says every child is equal in the eyes of the state and deserves to be treated as such. In these increasingly tough times, replica breitling many families rely on children's allowance and include it as part of the household income. It puts food on the table, heats homes, buys shoes and clothes for children and pays for expensive doctors' appointments. The Government must realise the huge public backlash it will face if it ploughs ahead with plans to cut this vital payment. It only has to cast its mind back to October last year when 15,000 furious pensioners took to the streets over plans to take away their medical cards. The two Brians can be assured there will be similar scenes if they cut the Children's Allowance - it's not the way to get the money we so desperately need right now. embroidered patches Ministers must stop obsessing about budget deficits and concentrate on getting the country back to work and the economy on its feet again. In the meantime, savings can easily be made elsewhere by scrapping lucrative tax reliefs and cutting the public service bill - for God's Sake, leave the children alone.
